Ben & Beckie’s wedding took place at the lovely Losehill House Hotel nestled right in the heart of the Peak District outside the village of Hope. A truly delightful and intimate wedding day shared with their nearest and dearest family and friends. The day started with some bridal preparation photos at Losehill House in the delightful accommodation the hotel offers there, it was during the bridal prep that I discovered the wedding dress I was about to photograph wasn’t just any ordinary wedding dress. Beckie told me that this dress was about to be worn at its third wedding by her as the third generation to be wed in it! Some 70 years or so ago her granny had worn the dress for their wedding day and then after a few alterations and care looking after the dress Beckie’s mum wore it for their wedding day. What a beautiful sentiment and story not to mention the dress itself.
There was plenty of fun during the prep which I often find is a great time to really get to know people who are there for the whole day as well as putting people at ease and capturing some lovely moments, I particularly love a photo of little Henry watching Dad Ben getting ready for the big day. The ceremony took place in the intimate Moorgate Suite with a big surprise as Sam Sweeney (an old university friend of Beckie’s) was there to play the music for the ceremony and then to play a short set in the afternoon. I’ve got to say, an incredibly talented traditional musician.
Following the ceremony, the guests enjoyed drinks outside under the shelter of the garden canopy at Losehill House and we managed to sneak in a few group shots with family members that Ben & Beckie had requested. Plus we squeezed in a few couples portraits with a short 20-minute session on the lane leading up to Losehill House. After the reception, the guests enjoyed a delightful 3-course meal and then the speeches ensued complete with a video slideshow of friends who couldn’t attend but wanted to wish the lovely couple a happy wedding day.
After the speeches, we took a short drive up to just below Stanage Edge above Hathersage to take some portraits of the newly weds against the dramatic backdrop of Stanage which looked somewhat autumnal for June. Then it was back to the hotel for Ben & Beckie to enjoy the rest of their evening and time for me to depart to leave them to have some time to chill out before dinner with everyone.
