Hayley + Craig | All Saints Church, Stand + Hallé St Peter’s, Ancoats

There are weddings you photograph and weddings you feel. Hayley and Craig’s day was unquestionably the latter. From the very first moments of the morning through to the last song of the evening, this day had a heartbeat all of its own. And at the centre of it all was one simple, beautiful intention: to become an official family, and have the time of their lives doing it.

The Morning: Gifts, Tears, and a Dad Seeing His Daughter

The day began at home with Hayley and her girls. There is always something quietly electric about a wedding morning. The getting-ready ritual carries its own particular magic, a mix of laughter and nerves, hairpins and heartfelt words. Hayley and her bridesmaids shared that beautifully. Gifts were exchanged, cards were read, and somewhere in the middle of all of it, the emotions that had been building for months found their moment.

But the moment that stopped the room? When Hayley’s dad saw her in her wedding dress for the first time. If you know, you know. And if you were there, you will never forget it.

All Saints Church, Stand: Something Old, Something Sacred

All Saints Church in Stand holds a special place in this family’s hearts, and the moment you step inside, you understand why. It is a genuinely stunning church. The kind of building that has witnessed generations of promises and carries the weight of that history in every stone.

Hayley arrived by wedding car with her dad by her side. And then, to the sweeping strings of Handel’s Air, she walked down the aisle. She had been asked what part of the day she was most excited about, and without hesitation, she said: walking down the aisle. In that moment, it was easy to see why. The smiles that greeted her said everything.

The ceremony itself had warmth woven through every detail. Both mums lit candles, a gesture that quietly acknowledged the families joining together that day. And there was a first for me as a photographer: the entire congregation came together, reached for each other’s hands, and formed an unbroken circle around the couple. An unbroken circle. As symbols go, it is hard to think of a more perfect one for a day built around the idea of family.

When Craig’s daughter Lilah wrapped her arms around the newlyweds after the ceremony, that was the image Hayley had told me she thought she would treasure most when looking back through the album in years to come. She was right.

After the ceremony, confetti flew, glasses of fizz were raised, and the churchyard filled with the unmistakable sound of genuinely happy people. A few group photos in the sunshine, and then everyone made their way into Manchester.

A Detour to the Stables (Because of Course)

While guests headed to the reception, a small group of us made a different kind of detour. Hayley’s horse was stabled nearby, and we were not about to miss that opportunity. There is something wonderfully Hayley about the fact that on her wedding day, in her dress, she wanted to be with her horse. The photos were relaxed, joyful, and completely unscripted. Just the way the best ones always are.

Hallé St Peter’s, Ancoats: Where the Music Lives

The reception venue was Hallé St Peter’s, and if you have never been, put it on your list. A former church transformed into a concert hall in the heart of Ancoats, this venue uniquely combines a grand and intimate atmosphere. The main room, where the wedding breakfast and dancing took place, is truly stunning, with its high ceilings, excellent acoustics, and an ambience that adds so much to this already stunning space.

Craig and Hayley discovered this special place together at a candlelit concert. This detail is significant; they were not just selecting a venue but returning to a location that held personal meaning for them.

Guests arrived at the beautiful sound of a pianist. Drinks were poured, stories were shared, and the unhurried pleasure of a wedding afternoon settled over everything before the speeches brought the room together for the meal. The best man, it had been predicted, would get the most laughs. He delivered. Some predictions deserve to come true.

Ten Minutes in Ancoats

Between the meal and the evening reception, Hayley and Craig slipped away with me for ten minutes. Just a short walk through Ancoats, between the rain, with no agenda other than to breathe, be together, and let the day catch up with them. These quiet pockets are some of my favourite moments to photograph. The confetti has settled. The speeches are done. It is just two people, finally married, finding a moment to feel it.

The images from those ten minutes are some of the most honest of the entire day.

The Evening: Dancing Until the Music Stops

They came back in, the band struck up, and the evening took over completely. The room, once filled with the warmth of a shared meal, became a dance floor. Hayley and Craig had their first dance to the Bee Gees’ To Love Somebody, and there is a generosity in that song choice. It is a song that gives everyone in the room something to hold onto.

The night ran on the way the best weddings always do: too quickly, and exactly as it should.

Hayley and Craig, thank you for sharing this day. What you set out to do, you did. You became an official family. You had loads of fun with the people who matter most.
