Tom helped us out by photographing our wedding on 10th December 2016 – he stepped in at the last minute (the week before the wedding!) to give us a great day and an amazing set of photographs. Words cannot describe how happy I was with my photos. My partner (now fiancee) and I live in the US, and having to plan a proposal in a different country was stressful. I had contacted over half a dozen photographers before I found Tom’s website.

I was ecstatic that he was in the Derbyshire area and he had experience working in the region where I was going to pop the question. After filling out the contact form on his site, he got back to me within an hour and we quickly scheduled an appointment to Skype and plan the details. Tom gave me feedback on the time of the proposal (was initially going to do it in the morning so it would be sunrise), and he suggested we do it during sunset instead because the landscape was better suited for an evening shoot. This is going to be a bit of a long one, so I will say this upfront for those who don’t want to take the time to read the whole thing: Not only was Tom Hodgson an integral part of the happiest day of my life; he enhanced it. Hired initially to candidly capture my proposal, Tom offered to spend the afternoon with my newly acquired fiance` and myself and provide for us an incredible engagement shoot. In my line of work, I’ve dealt with many photographers, and I can confidently say that this is the best experience I’ve ever had with one. If you want to hire a true professional who is affordable and remarkably talented, look no further than Tom Hodgson.

Now, to tell the whole story.

My fiance` and I are from the United States and we had been planning a trip to the UK for some time. Being an enormous fan of Pride and Prejudice, she most certainly wanted to see the Chatsworth House while we were visiting the Peak District. Unbeknownst to her, however, is that I had been planning the trip in order to propose to her on the grounds of Chatsworth.

I knew I wanted the moment immortalized, so I began searching for photographers. I came across Tom’s portfolio through the Peak District’s tourism website and immediately wanted to hire him. I shot him the details, and he agreed.

We spent two weeks corresponding emails back and forth, planning the logistics of the day, and eventually had a Skype session to finalize the details. Once we got to the Big Day, everything went according to plan. Tom and I seamlessly met up, and he was able to secretly follow us to the proposal spot. Once the moment had passed, he revealed himself, and we had the afternoon of a lifetime going around the grounds of Chatsworth and having our engagement shoot done.

Tom, knowing the reason this was happening was because of my fiance`’s love for Pride and Prejudice, brought her a couple different versions of the book to give to her as a memory sake. He also drove us in his van up to Stanage Edge for some beautiful views, shots, and memories. He even drove us back to our bed and breakfast afterwards.

All searches for photography in the Peak District should begin and end with Tom Hodgson. He is a kind, talented professional. My fiance` and I both feel like we have a friend across the pond now; and that is truly special.

We chose Tom to be the photographer for our wedding in September last year. We approached Tom to take our wedding photographs as Emma vaguely knew him from her Hathersage gym days. After the first meeting where he ran through everything, gave us a quick overview and a chat we knew there was no point in looking at other people. We had a quick photo shoot for our engagement (though a year after we were engaged) which was a nice opportunity to see how Tom worked and for him to try and figure out our good side (mine is the back!). They all look fantastic, even the ones of me which is a miracle in itself. The candid shots are my favorite but that is just my taste, I prefer these to staged pictures. All of our guests have nothing but praise for Tom and all his pictures. It’s hard to pick which to use as it’s a shame not to display them all.

We decided to use Tom Hodgson Photography after hearing great things from our friends. Tom was friendly and approachable and put us both at ease. On our wedding day Tom arrived bright and early and again instantly put myself and my bridesmaids at ease as well as the wedding party getting the venue ready downstairs. Tom did something very few wedding suppliers can do: a total professional throughout but remained approachable and most of all friendly. Tom is able to get the best photos of your day and keep everybody who might be stressing calm. The biggest problem on any wedding day is parts not going to plan, we unfortunately had a lot of rain – this didn’t matter to Tom, he had turned up early, scouted out the venue and already cherry picked the best spots for every weather type.

More importantly, Tom is adaptable – he discusses what you want before the event and during, changing to your needs and politely reminding you during the excitement of what you wanted so you don’t miss out – turns out you forget a lot of stuff when you’ve just stood in front of a lot of people and then had a glass or two (Let Tom do all the work!).

His photos are amazing, we expected them to be great due to the calibre of his work but we were still amazed at what we received. Tom very kindly helped us print some cards with our favourite photo and these have been very well received.

Lastly, and probably the most important, the cost. Tom cost less than all other photographers quoted and gave far more than any of the others quoted for. He doesn’t charge “wedding prices”, the type that are designed because you know you desperately need a photographer with experience. Tom has experience, Tom has knowledge and Tom is an amazing photographer – he chooses to charge a fair price for a day’s photography and planning.
