Lilah + Henry – A Vineyard-Tinged, Family-Fuelled Wedding in Hathersage

Some weddings feel like they start before I even pick up the camera — they already have this lovely rhythm to them. Lilah and Henry’s day was absolutely one of those. A gorgeous mix of family, sentimental touches, and a party powered by vinyl and a best man who happened to be a pretty accomplished DJ! Peak District weddings just hit different… but this one really did.

A Morning of Ironing, Parenting & Pre-Wedding fun

I kicked off the day with Henry and his family, who were entirely on Heidi-duty — their daughter, and already the star of the show before anyone else even had their ties on straight. Henry’s brother Oscar had somehow ended up on ironing duty, which, judging by the reaction in the room, is a rare enough event that I made sure to document it for the historical record I am sure it will have now become. Best man Finn also arrived, and it was great meeting one half of the evening’s entertainment. There’s something brilliant about photographing a best man in the morning, knowing he’ll be behind the decks later, treating everyone to a great evening of music.

Lilah’s Morning: Sisterhood, Sentiment & Vineyard Champagne

Just around the corner, Lilah was getting ready with her sister, Maddy, and her mum, Cheryl. The room had that mix of excitement, beauty prep, and the gentle clink of glasses — finishing off the last of the vineyard champagne from Heidi’s christening. (Sidenote: Champagne that comes from the top of Hathersage hits better.)

Another star of the show was Lilah’s dad, Jon — the first hour of evening entertainment would be proudly spent spinning vinyl later on. A special shout-out to the handheld-fan-meets-flower-drying. Innovation at its finest.

A Ceremony Shared Near & Far

Their ceremony was warm and heartfelt, the kind that naturally pulls everyone in. And even for those who couldn’t be there in person — Lilah’s grandparents — the livestream made sure they didn’t miss a single moment. You could almost feel them beaming in through the screen.

Afterwards? Hugs on hugs on hugs. And then… the confetti. Endless confetti. Honestly, the correct amount.

A Dash to the Vineyard Before the Rain

Before the weather had a chance to change its mind, we hopped up to Carr Head Vineyard — rows of vines, pockets of gardens, and that soft early-evening light that makes everything feel cinematic. Lilah and Henry were naturals, and the vineyard setting added such a personal touch to their photos.

Openhouse Takeover: Drinks, Details & A Feast

We made our way back down to Openhouse in Hathersage, which had closed its doors especially for the wedding, which instantly made the whole thing feel intimate and bespoke. While guests enjoyed drinks, I meandered around capturing the banquet-style table details, each one dressed with small pots of carefully chosen flowers. So simple and so perfect. While also documenting the connections between everyone chatting and sharing stories with each other. I was even lucky enough to sit in with the guests for the meal — a proper family-style feast with sharing plates and everyone digging in together. Honestly, I love it when weddings embrace this kind of communal dining. It just sets the tone for the whole evening.

Speeches, Sing-Alongs & A Party Fuelled by Vinyl

Speeches brought the heartfelt bits (and a few good giggles), but the real curveball came when Lilah’s brother grabbed a guitar, led a sing-along, and instantly turned the room into a cosy little gig. Also a keen photographer, Jon floated around with his Pentax film camera, capturing little bits of the reception. Then it was upstairs for cake-cutting and straight onto the dancefloor. Jon’s vinyl set was class. Full dancefloor, no lulls — just pure groove. And then Finn took over, keeping everyone going well into the night. Between the two of them, the party never once slowed down.

A Day Filled With Heart, Family & A Soundtrack They’ll Never Forget

Lilah + Henry’s wedding was this perfect cocktail of family moments, gorgeous landscapes, meaningful details and a party that absolutely delivered. Their day had so much personality woven into it — from vineyard champagne to dad’s vinyl set to a best man who knows his way around the decks.

It was an absolute joy to document.
