Ruairidh + Hannah | The Fleece Countryside Inn

Ruairidh & Hannah got in touch with me way back before the pandemic kicked in with the date they had in mind and the plans for their lovely wedding celebration. I think of all my 2021 weddings this was the only one whose date didn’t need to change because of Covid!! Funnily enough (and as quoted by Ruairidh in his speech) they had chosen this date because it stuck true to his Yorkshire roots; if you get my meaning about Yorkshiremen parting with money and I know I can say that since I am a Yorkshireman originally myself. A Monday wedding is certainly becoming more and more popular though these days and it didn’t make any difference to the fantastic time everyone would have.

The day started off with plenty of calm bridal prep at The Fleece Countryside Inn where Hannah was joined by her Mum, Aunty and 2 bridesmaids for hair and makeup. Ruairidh arrived in style with his best man Luca in a vintage car, borrowed from a neighbour who also drove them to The Fleece Countryside Inn, it was a beautiful piece of engineering and the boys looked very ready for the occasion arriving in style.

One thing I loved about the day was the thought that Hannah & Ruairidh had put into their wedding favours for the guests, Ruairidh works on the railway and it’s also something he is very passionate about (which I remember them telling me when we first met). So what they had decided to do was print some replica train tickets to leave for each guest to take to the bar and exchange for 3 drinks from the kind bride and groom, the bar staff even had a little hole punch to punch off each drink that was cashed in. I even got a ticket which was so lovely (although mine went on Rock Shandies since I had a job to do and to drive home later that day too).

Sadly though because of Covid, there were family and friends who couldn’t be with them on the day, including close family from around the world, the joys of travel restrictions and different governments meant it simply wasn’t possible. But not to be beaten, best man Luca, provided his iPad and a Zoom account to stream the wedding to those who couldn’t be with them on the day, all coordinated by the amazing staff at The Fleece Countryside Inn.
