Ronald + Claire | Stanage Edge

Claire and Ronald got in touch with me to tell me about the plans for their wild wedding up on Stanage Edge, they wanted an approach to their day which was very documentary focussed and exactly what I deliver for my clients. Living down south but having spent their lives exploring mountainous terrain the Peak District felt like a second home to them which is why they had chosen to get married on Stanage Edge.

The day started off with some very relaxed prep in the holiday accommodation they had rented in Bakewell, big enough to be home to the family for a few days and conveniently close to both Stanage Edge and The Riverside House Hotel where the reception was to be held. We all met up at Burbage North car park and took the walk from there up to trig point 457 on Stanage Edge for their wedding, it was lovely to have well-wishers admire Claire, Ronald and the guests walking up there. It was even more impressive to see Claire’s mum braving the terrain with walking sticks and a pair of strapping men to assist her journey there.

Claire + Ronald had a celebrant to conduct the ceremony and had their son Harris perform a handfasting ceremony with them before having a few windy portraits up on the edge and at trig point 457. As a family they have a photo of Harris at every single trig point they have ever visited together (and that would form a fun game later on). After the portraits around Stanage Edge and Burbage Bridge, we headed back to the house for a champagne reception and the game of playing a blindfold pin the Harris on the trig point.

It was soon time for taxis to the reception which was hosted by Rafters at Riverside House Hotel in Ashford-in-the-Water, it was a beautiful intimate dinner with some fine wine which Ronald had been laying down for a special occasion such as this. Following the meal, it was time for the speeches and some lovely tails of mountaineering and exploring – something which is a huge part of their lives.
