I have known Kate and Andy for quite a while now, both professionally and personally. It was such a lovely honour to be asked to capture their wedding day. When we spoke on our Zoom call, Kate and Andy told me about their plans and how they didn’t want to have a full on day like the usual wedding traditions dictate. Instead they wanted their closest circle with them and to spend it in a place that means a lot to them. York registry office was chosen because they live around York and Raithwaite at Sands End for the reception because it holds special memories for them both.
I met up with Kate at Churchill’s Hotel where she was having hair and makeup done. The room she was getting ready in had some lovely big windows with sunlight pouring into the room. Kate as always super chilled and relaxed with loads to catch up on, clearly though Kate was super excited for the day ahead. Kate and Andy wanted to do a first look at the hotel before they headed down the road to York Registry Office. One thing I noticed was this lovely big staircase from the hotel rooms down to the foyer so I decided to capture Kate walking down here to be greeted by Andy and the rest of the guests. I loved it and I think Andy did too given the reaction he gave.
The whole wedding party walked the short 5 minute stroll from the hotel to the registry office. I spent my time capturing everyone having fun chatting and greeting each other before we moved onto the main event. Obviously it wasn’t a big surprise to Andy to see what Kate might look like when she came down the aisle, but it was clear to see that big beaming smile that Andy always has, the excitement leaking out in that smile as he saw Kate come down the aisle.
It was a lovely ceremony and I felt a bit of nostalgia when I saw Andy’s dad doing his recipe for a successful marriage reading from an old Bero recipe book! It reminded me of being a kid as that’s the exact same one my num and dad had been passed (I think from one of their parents). We even had loads of confetti for when Kate and Andy walk out of the room, the guests making no exceptions in holding back their enjoyment to throw the confetti of course. Andy’s brother in particular with the remains of the basket (I might have told him he might want to keep a good amount back in the basket though)!
I took a few group photos here which Andy and Kate had asked for before grabbing some quick portraits of the two of them in some lovely Autumnal sunshine. We headed back to the hotel where everyone jumped in their cars to head for Raithwaite at Sands End. I stayed with everyone to capture the champagne reception and the speeches as well as making sure we took advantage of the lovely grounds at Raithwaite with some couples portraits. Anyway enough from me, have a watch of their photo highlights video below or you can always scroll through the images underneath. Enjoy.
