Emma + David | Armathwaite Hall

My first wedding of 2024 was gorgeous. It seemed such a long time since I spoke to Emma + David to book them for their wedding photography. Still, meeting them again in person for their wedding at Armathwaite Hall in the Lake District was great. Despite the lengthy drive up here, it’s always so refreshing to be visiting The Lakes to document a wedding; it always feels like a home away from home to me. It was my first time at the wonderful Armathwaite Hall; it is also an outstanding place in a superb location.

I was lucky enough to have a good friend with me to second shoot the groom prep in the morning; thanks, Pete, also a good friend with David, which helped get that perspective of the boys getting ready. I know the guys had a great morning, all having breakfast together and a quick dip in the pool before getting into their threads for the wedding. Meanwhile, bride prep was in full flow. The bubbles indeed were, and everyone was having a great time getting ready. Especially Thea, who totally stole the limelight, of course!

Emma and David had a string quartet playing for them during the wedding and the drinks reception, which was a charming touch, especially with their rendition of Ed Sheeran’s song, Perfect for Emma to walk down the aisle as she was given away by her mum. After the ceremony, we headed outside for some confetti, fun, drinks, hugs, and chatter. After everyone had had some time to enjoy the drinks reception’s relaxed start, we took the opportunity to use the outside areas for a few group photos and then a few minutes for some couples portraits. The resident cat at Armathwaite Hall making an appearance and even getting in on the action, too.

Emma and David entered their wedding breakfast and started things off with a champagne tower pour. Emma, of course, made sure there wasn’t anything left in the bottle. After that, with a loud welcome into the room, they got underway with some lovely speeches. The meal was interrupted by a rather clumsy waiter dropping a bucket of forks all over the floor; he turned out to be an undercover waiter, though Emma and David had invited him to the wedding for all their guests to enjoy. Everyone certainly earned their dessert after the singing waiter got them dancing and cheering.

I stole Emma and David for some lovely golden hour sunset portraits for 10 minutes before letting them get back to their guests and start the party with their first dance and cutting of the cheese cake! Anyway, enough from me. Have a watch of their photo highlights video below, or you can always scroll through the images underneath. Enjoy.
